Ula was my second Chinese Crested, and she came to me at 15 months old. She was bought back from her breeder because she was living in very poor conditions. Her breeder wanted to keep her, but granting me breeding rights (for two litters) made it possible for Ula to come to me.
Ula was extremely successful in the show ring. Although she only attended her very first show a week after moving to my home, she immediately came away with a fantastic result. At first, Ula was a little unsure of herself; she had never experienced the hustle and bustle of dog shows (something all the others from here learn at a very young age), but she was trusting, and so it was easy to get her used to everything and present her calmly in the ring.
In June 2007, Ula became a Slovakian Champion. I continued showing her until January 2008, when I took a break due to her second litter. She returned to the show ring in August 2008. The long-awaited final CAC (Certificate of Aptitude for Championship) needed for the title of Slovakian Grand Champion was awarded at the Slovak Club Show in September 2008. On that same day, Ula was also named Third Best Chinese Crested Bitch of Slovakia 2007 by the Slovak Chinese Crested Club. This was a great surprise for us. And Ula continued her success: our next goal, to achieve the title of International Champion, was reached at the end of November at an international show in Croatia. In 2009, Ula again participated in various shows in different countries, but not until mid-2009, as another break from showing followed, since Ula had her third litter, the L litter of my kennel Caipirinha's.
On January 10, 2009. On April 10, 2009, I received the certificate from the FCI: Ula had been awarded the title of International Champion on April 1, 2009. On April 5, 2009, Ula passed the Austrian breed survey, and finally, on February 26, 2010, she earned her last CAC, fulfilling all the requirements for the Croatian Beauty Champion title. With this result, she bid farewell to the show ring; it was time for her to simply be a couch potato - well-deserved after excellent show results since mid-2006 and with four championships. On May 26, 2011, at the age of six and a half, Ula had her fourth and final litter, the Caipirinha's N litter of my kennel. In my opinion, four litters are enough; I don't want to "exploit" my females.
Since Ula was still very fit at the age of 11, we decided to pursue another show title. In February and August 2016, she was shown in the veteran class, and on October 4, 2016, she was awarded the title of Hungarian Veteran Champion. This marked her final farewell to the show ring, although she continued to accompany me to shows with Maverick and Hippie until 2019 to give her a break from the daily grind.
Ula is a very social, friendly, affectionate, and well-balanced dog, and also an excellent mother (as she has proven with all her litters). Being able to be with her is an absolute joy!
On April 13, 2019, Ula was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis and an excessively distended gallbladder that was in danger of rupturing. The only way to save her was to remove her gallbladder, which was done on April 16, 2019. Ula recovered quickly for her age (just over 14 years old) and was able to resume her normal activities after a short time. The only things that needed to be observed were a strict diet and enzyme supplements with every meal. She then became somewhat blind, deaf, and demented, but enjoyed life and had an almost daily burst of energy that encouraged her to romp around for short periods. Everything went well until mid-October 2020, when she stopped eating her special diet food. After consulting with the vet, she was allowed to have chicken and beef from baby food jars, which she enjoyed very much. At the beginning of November, she started eating less and the vet gave her appetite-stimulating capsules, which worked really well for two weeks. On November 14, 2020, she refused all food completely and vomited in the evening. This had never happened since her surgery in April 2019. She was listless and only wanted to sleep. That was the sign for me that she had lost her will to live. She shouldn't suffer; I had to let her go. At midday on November 15th (11:20 a.m.) - exactly 14 1/2 years after we shared our lives – she fell asleep forever in my arms with the help of my veterinarian. She was 15 years, 9 months, and 4 days old. I was able to be with her for 14 1/2 years, and during all that time she brought me joy, happiness, fun, and love, for which I am eternally grateful. The pain of her loss is indescribable, but I try to tell myself that she could have died as early as her 14th birthday - before, during, or after the surgery. Thanks to my veterinarian, we were able to have a little over a year and a half together. Even though she is no longer physically here, she lives on in her son Maverick and her granddaughter Hippie.
Ula was cremated on November 18th, and I was able to collect her urn that same evening. It now sits on board in my memorial corner, right next to Keanu, with whom she had wonderful children.
Ula, I will always miss you, every single day of my life. But you are deep in my heart, and the memories of our beautiful years together will give me strength to minimize the pain - until we meet again ...…
