Samson in Memory
UGO de la Morne Plaine

I ONLY WANTED YOU
They say memories are golden, well maybe that is true.
I never wanted memories, I only wanted you.
A million times I needed you, a million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died.
In life I loved you dearly, in death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place no one can ever fill.
If tears could build a stairway and heartache make a lane,
I'd walk the path to heaven and bring you back again.
Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.

Samson was born in Belgium. I had wanted a grey Briard for a long time and was quite surprised to hear from Yazoo's breeders that there was a puppy in Belgium who would turn grey and that I could have him. This male would also be an interesting breeding partner for Yazoo, so I didn't hesitate long, even though I usually only take puppies once the youngest dog in the pack was fully grown – Yazoo was only nine months old and gave me plenty to do. Nevertheless, I deviated from my plan and brought Samson home from Belgium at nine weeks old. Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned with his color: Samson was the only one in the litter who remained black… I didn't mind, because Samson was a wonderful boy. I was sure I'd get a grey Briard eventually.

Samson and Yazoo were inseparable from the start and became a great team. And Samson now accompanied Yazoo on our travels to dog shows. He was shown at several shows in France, Slovakia, and Austria and achieved excellent results. Since Samson wasn't the happiest dog when traveling by car or at dog shows, I stopped doing that and did what Samson really enjoyed: visiting the training grounds and doing a little obedience and protection work, as well as the occasional tracking exercise. And Samson especially loved being harnessed to the Sacco cart with Yazoo and going for rides around the area.

Samson & Yazoo
Samson enjoyed life, had lots of fun with Yazoo and his children, and was an uncomplicated dog who never once challenged Sándor's rank or tried to start a conflict with him. When Oh-Lala joined the family, she too became a much-loved playmate. The two would have been a perfect match for puppies: in terms of bloodlines and temperament, and I certainly would have gotten gray puppies from this pairing. However, I couldn't breed them because they were both CSNB carriers.

Samson, daughter Champagne (Australia) & Yazoo
On March 15, 2005 - just two weeks after his 9th birthday, far too young - Samson crossed the Rainbow Bridge completely unexpectedly. He was never sick in his life ...... he was bursting with strength and energy ...... he loved life so much. ...... Early in the morning he was still playing in the garden, then he refused his food, lay down in his spot and didn't get up again ...... on the way to the vet he suffered a stroke.
He left behind emptiness, profound sadness, and incomprehension at his untimely departure... he has gone ahead to join his parents, friends, and some of his children. Someday the day will come when we will all be reunited...
Samson, the years with you were indescribably beautiful, fulfilling, fun, and unforgettable. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to be with you all this time and for being such a wonderful friend and protector. You live on in all your children, but that is no real comfort—I miss you so incredibly much. ...... THANK YOU, Samson, for all the joy and happiness you brought me. I will never forget you ...... Your place is now deep in my heart... Shortly before the first anniversary of his death, I commissioned a tribute to my unforgettable Samson, a portrait drawing based on one of my favorite photos of him. This drawing is an exact replica of the original, a beautiful work by Michaela Liegle - Tierportrait.at

Veterinary help URGENTLY necessary |
The veterinary detected dehydration with Yazoo, the pulse was nearly not to feel, pigmentation in the mouth was nearly white, no reaction to any words, she through up slime several times. She was given IV immediately and a shot for promoting the blood circulation. The puppy had not lost too much body liquid, but got a bit of the IV to be on the safe side. Some time later it was allowed to offer the puppy water and food. I was informed later on that there had not been any more problems with the puppy: the small girl had arrived her new home sound and happy. |
|
Yazoo's condition did not change much, so the veterinary continued to giver her IV. Slowly some life came to the girl and with helping hands she could finally get up after about two hours and make some not too safe steps on her wobby legs. Authority proceeds |

On August 7, 2005, the 10th birthday was celebrated, a day in Yazoo's life worth to be celebrated. Everything was alright, Yazoo was healthy and funny, happy as always ...... |
|
Three times Yazoo was born: on August 7, 1995, when she saw the light of day. On August 4/5, 2000, when she survived the horror trip to Canada. On June 2/3, 2004, when all of a sudden within a few minutes she broke down with high fever and was back home only 24 hours after a hard emergency surgery. She was always a fighter - completely according to her sign of Zodiac - but sometimes also a "kamikaze" - an extremely endearing kamikaze. And this characteristic fas finally the reason why Yazoo failed in her last fight: never ever she indicated when something was wrong with her, always in the very last moment. To the bitter end she pretended to be the funny, healthy, bursting with energy girl .......... |

|
Yazoo, I cannot believe that you are gone. I cannot believe and I don't want to understand that my beloved Star does not shine any more, that your light on earth has disappeared. Yazoo, all the family members, who have already gone over the Rainbow Bridge, took a piece of my heart with them, but you took nearly all of it ... How shall I continue??? Only once in a life - if ever - one has such a very special friend and companion, and YOU are and were this "once in a life". |

On August 26, 2005, early in the morning, Yazoo was cremated in my presence and since then forever watches over everyone here in the house, to where she brought so much luck, happiness and life. A warm thank you to those friends who immediately - without hesitating - generously donated for the purpose that this sincere wish of mine comes true, so that this very special star of my life can now always be with me. |

Yazoo in Memory
BISS Sél. JCh. LOULOU des Cèdres de la Montagne Noire, CGC

For the World you were just someone,
for me YOU were the World ......
HD 0/1, CSNB clear * full breeding confirmation in France, Austria, Slovakia, USA and Italy
August 7, 1995 - August 23, 2005 (Import from France)
Sire: Sél. Champ. PURSAN du Clos des Cèdres (Champion France 1996, Selected France 1996, Etalon d'Elite)
Dam: Champ. MAGALIE du Clos des Cèdres (Champion Luxemburg)
Yazoo was imported to Austria on October 2, 1995. She descended from a very well-known and old French line, and she was at that time one of the last grandchildren of worldwide famous Rubis. Already at the age of 7 months Yazoo was in the show ring in foreign countries. At her very first show (Munich 2006) the judge added the comment "an enrichment for the breed" to her judgement paper. Our trips to shows were to Belgium, France, Germany, Slovakia, Canada, USA and Italy. In an interval of only 29 days we got the "Austrian Junior Champion" with her. Until 2005 - apart from the breaks when she had puppies - this girl was shown by us. Only one single time in all her show career as a grown up Yazoo came out of the ring with the bad and absolutely not justifiable result "very good", at all the other shows she was always in the front status, was placed or Winner and Best of Breed and also Best in Show.
In summer 1997 we went to France and Yazoo passed the French breeding confirmation with excellent. At the show which took place at the same time with an selection of the most excellent dogs of the region, she won her class at the age of nearly two years and turned to be second best Briard of the show. In May 2000 she passed the Slovakian breeding confirmation with excellent and was selected. In July 2000 she was placed among big concurrence fifth best bitch of Europe in open class at the European Briard Championship. In August 2000 she passed the CGC in America (only 5 days after her horror trip), was pre-selected on the same day, selected on the next day, won her class at the National Specialty of BCA (among 19 bitches) and went Winners Bitch 2000 of America. At the same time she passed the American breeding confirmation. After a one year's break Yazoo was selected in Italy in October 2001 and was also admitted the full breeding confirmation in Italy. She was only missing one more Winner in veteran class and would have been Austrian Veteran Champion - she was already entered to the show, but died one month before.
Yazoo was her life long a funny, lively, self-confident, self-assured, vivacious, impetuous and bursting with energy dog. After her horror trip to Canada she even placed more confidence in me - although she went through real bad experience that time - than before. When I was off with another dog and she had to stay at home by way of exception, she insisted every evening to get up on my bed to spend the night there, instead of being together with the other ones - as long until I was back home.
Already on the day of her arrival Yazoo showed us that she was completely different than the other Briards here in the house. Our so far methods for socialization and education had to be changed completely, as with the in those days traditional way there was no getting at her. Not that she was a problem dog - no, but she called anything into question what she was asked for or what she was demanded.
Yazoo was an extremely social dog, she adopted any new puppy - being a Briard or of another breed, and she play with anyone who was around her. Had she enough or if the other ones overshot the mark, it was enough that she was only looking at them ...... in spite of her unbounded good-naturedness she had towards other dogs a charisma which made all know immediately that she was the chief and would at this point by no way tolerate "no buts", that she was the uncrowned queen (as we liked to say).
We had three litters with Yazoo. Most of her puppies were exported to foreign countries, also to oversea. It was HER children who made this kennel well-known worldwide and it's them to whom we owe our breeding success.
This wonderful girl was something unique; we know way too good that we will never again in our lives will have a dog like she was. Such a dog - if at all - one only has once in a life. Yazoo is today still being missed as if she had just gone ..... the pain about her loss is not even a bit smaller than in the beginning. We miss all the ones who have already gone over the Rainbow Bridge, each of them had something special which no other had, but Yazoo was just YAZOO.
After her passing we ordered a tribute for our unforgotten Yazoo, a portrait drawing from one of our favorite photos of her. This drawing is the absolute mirror of the model, a wonderful work of Michaela Liegle - Tierportrait.at)

Departure Vienna
While leaving the plane a stewardess said to me that in few minutes I would see my dogs. But what happened then and would furtheron happen, I had never in my life expected, this vacation turned to be no vacation but a horror trip: Just at the gangway I was asked by a woman from the ground crew if I was Mrs. Friedl and I said yes, with the remark that now I would be brought to my dogs. The answer hit me like a punch: NO, YOUR DOGS ARE IN PARIS ..... Everyone will imagine what went on in me now.

The outcome for us out of AIR FRANCEcause
